Nelson Drive Affordable Housing

This groundbreaking partnership with the Bridger Teton National Forest, brings together federal stewardship, local expertise, and community generosity to address one of the most urgent needs facing Teton County – all without the sale of public lands. Of the 36 homes coming to Nelson Drive, one-third will be dedicated to Forest Service employees, ensuring that the people who protect our lands can live in the community they serve. The remaining homes will serve qualified households who keep our community strong.

36 rental units - one and two bedrooms across 14 buildings

13 for BTNF employees and the remaining units available to CHT qualified applicants

FAQs

  • You might have noticed that the trailhead looks a little different already. Summer 2025, BTNF addressed drainage issues by regrading and designing the parking area. During construction, the trailhead will remain open. The trail will be rerouted during the first phase of construction Spring/Summer 2026 at which point the trailhead will be temporarily moved to the southside of the site.

  • No. The amount of parking spots are unchanged.

  • It will not remain on property. The final resting spot is ultimately up to the Forest Service.

  • This project has been in the works for over a decade. If you were around, you might remember when public comment was requested. Given that the project is on U.S. Forest Service land, technically, it does not require the same public process as that of a development on Town/County Land. That being said, BTNF management and the Community Housing Trust team have elected to follow the design standards and development guidelines of the Town.

  • Similar to the Permit that JHMR, Snow King, Togwotee Mountain Lodge and dude ranches like Triangle X all have, the Forest Service grants use of their land through Special Use Permits. These permits range from 5-30 years and the applicant must follow strict environmental and economic development guidelines in order to be considered as a steward of the land.
